If you started a B.Ed. program in Ontario after September 2015, you can request to transfer credits. Requests are evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Note that only courses taken in the language of the program for which you are requesting admission will be considered when assessing advanced standing.

Requests to transfer credits will only be considered after you have accepted your offer of admission. B.Ed. courses completed in another province or country are not eligible for advanced standing in the University of Ottawa’s B.Ed. program.

You will need to send a detailed description of each course to e[email protected] so that we can evaluate any advanced standing that may apply.

The teaching subjects chart specifies which courses are accepted (“given subject courses” and “related subject courses”) to qualify to teach a subject. We encourage you to carefully read Section 1 (Make sure that you are eligible before applying) on the undergraduate program admissions page. 

If in doubt, you can send a description of the course to [email protected]. Note that we can only answer questions about specific courses. The faculty does not pre-evaluate admission files.

The deposit will not appear on your statement of account. To confirm receipt, log into uoZone. Under Applications, select Admission File, and then your program of study. Confirmation of receipt of your deposit will be posted at the top of the page in grey.

Please allow about 48 hours for the confirmation to appear in your admission file. If the confirmation does not appear after 48 hours, contact InfoService for assistance. 

The B.Ed. program does not accept requests to defer admission. For more information, see the I’ve received a decision webpage. 

The waiting list is not numbered and so unfortunately, it is impossible to know your chances of admission. If admitted, you will receive an email informing you of the update. 

However, we do strongly recommend that you verify your uoZone account regularly. You will remain on the waiting list until a spot is available or until the program meets its enrolment quota. The waiting list could be maintained until the first week of classes; however, the faculty reserves the right to cancel it before the end of the admissions process.

If you’re applying for the Formation à l’enseignement program, you must register for the Test de compétence linguistique (TCLF).

If you’re applying for the Teacher Education program, to teach French as a second language, you must register for the Test de compétence en langue française (TCLE).

The two tests aren’t interchangeable.

If you’re applying for a Formation à l’enseignement program or a Teacher Education teaching French as a second language program, you must pass our language proficiency test (TCLF or TCLE). There are no exceptions. You must register for the test, which can’t be replaced by any other evaluation (such as the TECFÉE, DALF or SEL). If you don’t pass the test, we won’t accept your application. 

Once you’ve applied for admission, the University will email you an acknowledgement of receipt. It will include your uoAccess ID and password to log into the uoZone student portal. Select the Application tab and then Admission file. You’ll see your recent admission applications as well as a list of requirements you must meet, including a link to register for the language proficiency test.

Once the pretest availability period is over, it’s impossible for you to access it. If you haven’t written it by the deadline, you’ll have to register for the next test. To ensure your place, you must re-start the registration process. You must also pay your registration fees again.

Registration fees for language proficiency tests aren’t refundable. 

Teaching, summer camp, coaching, tutoring, teaching assistantships and paid or volunteer work with groups where you have to plan, deliver and assess a program are all good examples of experience. However, while a wide variety of experience might give you a better understanding of the realities of teaching and learning, it’s not so much the amount of experience that matters as your ability to respond thoughtfully to the questions you’re asked. How you structure what you say, how well you write and how your experiences relate to teaching are also considered.

After you’ve submitted your statement of experience, you can’t change it. If we need more information, we’ll contact you.

We can’t say in advance when we’ll contact your references, or even if we’ll contact them. It could be anytime between when you submit their names and when we decide on your application.

They’re meant for different groups:

The Multi-Session Transitional Certificate is for part-time students in the Formation à l’enseignement program.

The Transitional Certificate is for full-time students in the Teacher Education and Formation à l’enseignement programs (Ottawa, Toronto and Windsor campuses).

The undergraduate studies office sends off its reports in batches according to a fixed schedule. An e-mail will be sent to the students concerned to express their interest and submit their OCT numbers during the submission period. You’ll receive a confirmation email when the report is submitted.

No. Bachelor of Education programs are accredited to prepare candidates to teach in Ontario elementary or secondary schools. Practicum must be completed in Ontario to meet requirements of the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) for accreditation. 

No, the Faculty of Education is responsible for arranging all practicum placements to meet Ontario College of Teachers (OCT), program, and school board requirements.

Yes. Teacher Candidates are expected to arrive at their assigned classroom at least 30 minutes prior to the official school start time and stay at the school at least 30 minutes at the end of the day or as determined by the Associate Teacher.
