Louise Stahl & Elizabeth Dubois
Dr. Louise Stahl successfully defended her PhD in Communication titled “The Credibility Assessment Process of Political Information on WhatsApp in Brazil”.

Under the supervision of Dr. Elizabeth Dubois, the University Research Chair in Politics, Communication and Technology and a Faculty member at the Centre for Law, Technology and Society, Dr. Louise Stahl‘s research focused on how users assess the credibility of political information on WhatsApp, particularly during the 2022 Brazilian elections. It highlighted the role of social relationships, platform features, and heuristic processing in shaping how users engage with and evaluate political content and suggests strategies to improve information literacy and credibility assessment in closed messaging platforms.

Prior to pursuing her doctorate, Dr. Louise Stahl completed her BA in social communication, with a focus on advertising and marketing at the University of São Paulo in Brazil. Before moving to Canada to continue her studies, she worked in advertising in Brazil for several years, mostly in digital advertising agencies such as Sapient Nitro, Dentsu Aegis Network and Mirum Agency.

Beyond her supervisors, Dr. Louise Stahl doctoral defense committee consisted of Dr. Mary Cavanagh, Dr. Daniel Paré, Dr. Constance Crompton and Dr. David Nemer (University of Virginia). The defense chair was Prof. Meredith Berretta.

Congratulations to Dr. Louise Stahl !
