Research Data Management Strategy

The University of Ottawa is committed to cutting-edge research, taking on real-world problems and engaging in impactful interdisciplinary research. Fostering excellence in research data management is an important contributor to this goal.

Research Data Management at Çï¿ûÊÓÆµ

In response to the release of the , the University of Ottawa established the RDM Advisory Group in 2021 to develop an institutional RDM strategy that will further enhance Çï¿ûÊÓÆµâ€™s position as a leading research institution, with a commitment to excellence in the management of all elements of research including RDM.   

The RDM Advisory Group will draw on previous work conducted by the RDM Working Group, which was initiated in 2018 and brought together the Office of Research and Innovation (OVPRI), Information Technology (IT), and the Library, with researcher representation from various faculties. The Working Group undertook an exploration of current gaps and services and coordinated a response to the Draft Tri-Agency Policy on Research Data Management

The Research Data Management (RDM) Advisory Group is pleased to share the University of Ottawa's Research Data Management Strategy. 

This document is the culmination of work undertaken over several years, including surveying our researchers, conducting an environmental scan of horizontal strategic initiatives, and engaging with stakeholders.

Support and services

A DMP is a formal document that details the strategies and tools you will implement to effectively manage your data throughout your research project. The Library provides guidance and tools to support the creation of your DMPs.

Several file and data storage solutions exist for faculty members and their students. With multiple benefits such as cloud hosting for file sharing and collaboration or access to central file servers for back-ups and repository, to internal hosting for safe and secure long-term storage of large data sets, IT offer various options you can consider.

The Office of Research Ethics and Integrity provides advice on language and requirements for consent forms and other areas of research data involving human subjects

Many publishers and granting agencies are asking authors and grant holders to make the data underlying their published research and intellectual products publicly accessible. Consult the Library for guidance and support on depositing your research data into a repository.
